In the spring of 2006 the Tennessee Community Services Agency (TNCSA) contracted with the Department of Finance and Administration to provide outreach and follow-up for the CoverKids insurance initiative, the first of the CoverTennessee programs that were put in place by Governor Phil Bredesen. TNCSA main function was to spread the word about the new initiative and provide information about the affordable insurance found within the CoverKids program to those who needed coverage for their children or pregnant mothers. TNCSA held community functions, and led grass root efforts to draw attention to the program. From being out in the community to answering calls and following up with with those interested in the program, TNCSA ensured the successful enrollment of over 1.5 million Tennessee children!
There was a gap in services that neglected the youth of our state. TNCSA stepped in to bring awareness to the initiative that would address the gap, followed up with those showing interest by fielding questions and providing help to those signing up for the initiative, and thus ensured the successful roll-out of the CoverKids program.
Not every job can bring joy to the employees that fulfill the role of the worker, but this program truly did just that. To know that you are helping a family that thought help was out of reach is more than rewarding in and of itself. We can't tell you how many calls we received just thanking us for making parents aware of this option to ensure their children... rewarding indeed!
